We’ve
all been there, didn’t we? Accidentally or even with good knowledge,
we’ve deleted important files from our computer. It isn’t that easy to
be organized and to know where exactly to put all your files and folders
when there’s so much to store. We’ve all got movies that we want to see
later or to store on special DVDs, documents that need to stay well
protected and hidden and photos that we really have to safeguard
to prevent the accidental loss. So, a good solution would be to prevent
the accidental loss, but, what can you do if you’ve deleted your files
and you need to recover them?
Don’t Panic, it’s not yet Deleted
A file that was once encrypted on your hard drive doesn’t ever get lost. It will die only if your hard drive’s life cycle has come to an end. With most of modern hard drives, that will happen not sooner than almost 1,000 full encryption. There are models that can resist even to more encryption, so buying a new hard drive or using a new model of external HDD is a good solution for your files. When a file is deleted it’s actually removed from the directory of files. Even if you’ve used the the Shift+Delete option, to remove it from the Recycle Bin, it still remains recoverable as it leaves traces on the hard drive disk. However, you should hurry with your recovery process, because sooner you do it, there are more chances of recovering your files. If you’ll use some free software, they will be able to recover recent files with an accurate precision, just like a paid program. If you’re trying to recover the files a long time after they were deleted, then a free software may not be as good as a paid, with support program. One thing to avoid is the defragmentation as this will highly reduce the chances of recovering your lost photos, docs or rare videos.
Price and Quality, Paid Programs
We all want to get the best things in life without paying for them, but we also have to pay for our mistakes. Choosing a paid software will provide the immediate solution to your problem, saving you from the hassle of searching like a madman for free compatible software or, even worse, trying to download them using torrents and scouting for lost keys. Of course, if we were to pay for every digital need or pleasure, we’d be broke. But, if you have the money and you need those lost files fast, then a paid program is the best solution.Disk Doctors, $59
This software will cure your hard drive disk and find the deleted files that you are looking for. The makers of the software are boasting with “instant file recovery” possibilities. Why wouldn’t they be instant when you’re paying almost 60 dollars, right? Here is what the program can do:
- Recover deleted files emptied from the Recycle Bin
- Recover accidentally formatted hard drives, even when Windows has been reinstalled.
- Get back files after partition corruption or re-partitioning.
- Recover documents, photos, video, music and email and many other file types.
File Scavenger, $49
A very ingenious name for such a software. File scavanger will search for “dead” files or, will scavenge them to extract precious lost data. This program is created and supported by the guys at Quetek. The advantage that this software has is that it will recover data also from floppy disks (who is using them anymore?), ZIP disks, memory sticks, flash cards, RAIDs and more. With other programs, you’d have to buy a different version for each type of storage device.
Munsoft Data Recovery Suite, $35
The Munsoft program presentation has a big red cross on it to suggest that it will help you recover old files. You’ll see on their website that they have six different recovery programs, for documents, photos and all kinds of files. The Recovery Suite sums up all those features in a single program. It’s cheaper than other programs, as well, you’d have to pay $35 to get it.
Recover My Files, $65
This is one of the most popular file recovery software on the torrents and I know of few people who have tried it. They spent hours and hours trying to get a registration key but failed to do so. It’s not cheap, I agree with you, but it performs the needed tasks without no issues. If you want to cure your MAC as well, you’d have to pay a little more, as the software charges for the MAC version as well.
Data Recovery Software $80
The most expensive starting version from all the programs enlisted here. Why does it cost that much? Well, because it’s fast and it recovers even the smallest files that you had. It will basically work for any kind of storage device and will be quick to respond to your immediate needs. This is the suggested program for those who’ve lost a very important password and will do anything just to get it back.
UndeletePlus, $50
When researching for this article, I found many websites to indicate that this program is free. They were all wrong and partially deceived, or, made to believe it’s free because of a slick marketing technique. The download is free and you can see the files that you need to recover but, you can’t really recover them without the registration key. The website has a pretty good design, as well, made to attract as many visitors as possible.
Free Software to Recover Deleted Files
If you currently don’t have money to pay for such a software or if you don’t think it’s right to do so, then you should take a look at the free programs below. However, you might be lucky and you could recover your files even without the need of a specialized recovery software. If you’re a Windows user and you have activated the back-up option, then the restore option can be your savior. You’d have to set a previous restore point, though. But, let’s be honest, can you tell when the tragedy will happen?PC Inspector
Judging by the country where the website of this great free software is hosted, we can assume that the team is also from Germany. It seems that the PC Inspector software has been created to attract customers to the website in order to sell them other products. I say – great marketing strategy and awesome help for the community!
Recuva
Recuva is one of the most popular free software to recover your deleted files. It was once single branded on www.recuva.com, now is part of the great software pack at www.piriform.com, where you can find the CCleaner software, as well. Recuva seems to be a very good software albeit it’s free. Here’s what PC World has to say about it:
“If you just want a good un-delete program with a small disk footprint (and no financial cost), then Recuva is what you’re looking for… the interface is the very model of restrained style and efficiency.”
EaseUs Data Recovery Wizard
The Data Recovery Wizard is a free version from the EaseUs brand. It’s actually free for just one gigabyte. So, if you want to recover more of your deleted data, you’ll have to pay some extra dough. But, it can work very well if you’re searching for text files or important documents, as those don’t occupy too much space.
Win Data Recovery
Like most of these software presented here, this one will recover data for the Windows users. It’s a product that has been tested by PC Mag, so you should be confident in its powers. The official presentation of the software says that it can even restore files that have been damaged by viruses, so this software acts a little like an antivirus, as well. Of course, the biggest advantage is that it’s free.
Panda Recovery
Panda Recovery has been my favorite recovery tool for years now. I am not afraid of accidentally deleting files because I know that the mighty Panda is here to protect me. What’s even better, you can carry it with you, but you’d have to pay for the mobile version, though. But, isn’t it great to have such a wonderful program at no costs? You can ever recover hidden or archived files with the Panda recovery software.
Free Undelete
This is the most basic and simple recovery software presented here, from the free and paid ones. It’s free for personal use, which means that if you want to use it for your employees, you have to buy it. We’re not quite sure if it will work for the latest Windows 7 so don’t be upset if it doesn’t. You still have so many viable options left, with or without paying for them.
