Alarms
are something that we have been hating since ages – be it the old
bedside clocks or the cellphone alarm apps – they all have been
subjected to our morning blues. Snooze button is the culprit. For most
of us who want the extra bit of sleep, all we need to do is hit the
Snooze button and it’s done. There are no dearth of alarm apps on the Play Store, but most of them are simply mimicking the classic alarm clock, albeit with different UIs.
The latest produce from the Microsoft Garage called the Mimicker Alarm promises to not only wake you up but also pull you out from the slumber. This app from Microsoft wants you to take a Selfie with a particular expression, find an object with a matching color and repeat some tongue twisters (Although I can’t manage this one even when I am fully awake!). You can choose from these three games and only after completing the test, the alarm would go silent.
Mimicker alarm app is not something totally out of the box since Sleep as Android does the same only a tad bit better. That being said, it showcases the capability of Microsoft Machine learning setup. Allison Light, a program manager at Microsoft Project Oxford said “We are showcasing several different Project Oxford API’s, Since we’re open sourcing all the code, we thought an alarm app would be easy for other developers to read the code and see how we used the APIs.”
If you don’t mind making faces at your phone every morning and run to fetch objects, then the Mimicker Alarm is the best bet for you.
