Google Play Replaces Android Market; Unifies Apps, Books, Music, Movies, Games

In an unexpected move, Google has announced a brand new service called Google Play which is an attempt to rebuild the Android Market by unifying Apps, e-Books, Music, Movies and Games into a single brand.
The Android ecosystem is getting stronger by the day and Google thinks that by integrating Android market with Google Music and Google eBookstore, the ecosystem will get even stronger.

“Google Play will become a single experience for users,” Jamie Rosenberg, director of digital content for Google said. “This creates a more powerful experience around Android and also increases opportunities for content partners” to interact with more of Google’s offerings.

What Google Play has to offer?

Inside Google Play, you can store up to 20,000 music tracks or purchase new songs from a catalog now more than 8 million tracks. Google Play also has more than 450,000 Android apps and games available for download, more than 4 million eBooks, and not to mention thousands of movies available for rent.
Don’t be surprised if you don’t see the Android Market app on your smartphones or tablets. Google says the Android Market app on Android phones and tablets, as well as apps for music, books and videos will be updated over the next few days to Google Play Store, Google Play Music, Google Play Books and Google Play Movies apps.
In the U.S., music, movies, books and Android apps are available in Google Play. In Canada and the U.K., we’ll offer movies, books and Android apps; in Australia, books and apps; and in Japan, movies and apps. Everywhere else, Google Play will be the new home for Android apps.
With tabs for music, books, movies and applications, Google Play helps Google compete with Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and others in its quest for the ultimate entertainment and media hub.
