Apple Wants to Reinvent the Notebook with a Brand new ‘MacBook’

Many of us believed that today’s event will be just about the Apple Watch, but it seems that Apple has some nice surprises prepared for us. First of all, it has reduced the price of the Apple TV and partnered with HBO for an exclusive HBO Now service. And now, the company has announced a redesigned and quite stylishly looking new MacBook. Yes, they are calling it just like that – MacBook.

Apple’s iPad sales aren’t doing so great and they seemed to have reached a plateau. And my feeling is that this has prompted them to give more attention to the slightly neglected notebook business. As you will see for yourself, and as Apple puts it, everything they have ‘learned from designing iPhone and iPad’ has helped them design this new MacBook. Let’s have a look at its main features and specs:
  • 13.1 mm – 24% thinner than the 11-inch MacBook Air
  • 2 pounds – lightest MacBook so far
  • 12-inch Retina display
  • New, pressure-sensitive Force Touch trackpad
  • First fanless MacBook
  • 1.1 Ghz Intel Core M processor (runs on just 5 watts)
  • 8GB memory, 256GB SSD
  • Intel HD Graphics 5300
  • All-day battery life – up to 9 hours web browsing, up to 10 hours iTunes movie playback
  • New USB-C connectivity standard, Thunderbolt 2
  • New gold color
The Retina display now uses 30% less energy but is able to produce the same brightness as other Mac Retina displays. Speaking of its display, you should know that it packs over 3 million pixels, making it the thinnest Mac Retina display yet. The logic board is now 67% smaller than the one in the 11-inch MacBook Air, which has helped reduce its weight.
Speaking of the redesigned trackpad, Apple said that it is now possible to adjust the sensitivity of the trackpad to decide how much pressure it takes to click. Thus, you can click anywhere and it seems that the clicks are now quieter, as well. Another really cool feature is that it comes with a Taptic Engine which produces tactile feedback. It can also understand he difference between a light tap and a deep press, thus letting you use force clicks which add new shortcuts to apps.

The MacBook comes with a new butterfly mechanism which makes each key more stable, more precise, and 40% thinner. It also gets an all-new, full-size keyboard that’s been totally revamped. Apple also says that each key is now four times more stable and has a 17% larger surface area. This is an improvement that will definitely appeal to journalists and writers.
But this is not all about the keyboard. There is also an LED under every key, which gives the entire keyboard a uniform glow, making it easy to use in the dark. The new MacBook also gets a new USB-C which gives you five ports in one – power, USB data transfer, DisplayPort, HDMI, and VGA.
The MacBook starts at $1299 and you will get the standard specs that you’re seeing in the above list. For $1599, however, you will get a slightly better 1.2 Ghz Intel Core M processor and a double SSD at 512GB. The new MacBook will be shipping April 10.
